YouTuber Tana Mongeau films ‘out-of-touch’ $30,000 designer fashion haul: ‘My shopping problem is bad’

Tana Mongeau is perhaps best known for her endlessly entertaining “story time” videos on YouTube, which range from tales about her personal life to humorous “Get Ready With Me” clips. But recently, it’s a designer fashion try-on haul that has been getting attention from viewers — in a way you might not expect.

The video’s title pretty much says it all: “$30,000 fashion haul (my shopping problem is BAD).”

But before she even shows off a single piece of her haul, Mongeau lets viewers know that she’s well aware this is about to be pretty over-the-top. That’s what she’s going for.

“Today I woke up feeling like Trisha Paytas,” Mongeau begins, referencing another fellow YouTuber known for her flashiness. “Like, I just want to do a so out-of-touch designer haul and just not care what anyone thinks and have so much fun doing it. So that’s what I’m gonna do today.”

According to Mongeau, she’s been following the fitness challenge 75 Hard, which requires her to cut out bad foods, harmful substances and other not-so-healthy things she used to find “fun.” As a result, she’s become a lot healthier and clear-headed but has channeled those past unhealthy vices into shopping.

“I have been shopping so much, which I need to get a hold on,” Mongeau admits. “I think I’ve gotten a lot of it out of my system, but I do just feel like Trisha in her old days when she would do a f****** $25,000 haul on a Tuesday.”

And so, she begins to show off some of her own recent purchases — starting with a $245 hat from Chrome Hearts that says “F***” on the front, a matching sports bra and bike short set for $500 a piece and several oversized crew shirts and zip-ups that she guessed were each under $1,000.

As Mongeau continues to hold up more and more items, she does so while making self-deprecating comments about her shopping problems and other personal issues.

“This one’s embarrassing, OK, this one’s just embarrassing, like I’m paying to be cool,” she admits before showing off a $70 pair of pink boxers she bought herself.

She follows this up with a pair of designer heels and a story about how she used to waste money on Louboutins but was too nervous to wear them. There’s also a $360 bikini that she proudly got “on sale” and a $400 pair of pink jeans that she confesses she’ll probably only wear once. There are also Prada bags, Versace clutches and some oversized leather jackets — the list goes on and on.

The video, which runs a full 30 minutes, is peppered with relatable stories about Mongeau’s shoe size getting bigger with age and even the time she spent way too much money on a ring, only to have to get it sawed off when it got stuck on her finger and blocked any blood flow. (After that, she learned her lesson about buying expensive jewelry just because.)

The video has about 365,000 views on YouTube and more than 1,300 comments. But while you might expect to see a ton of criticism about Mongeau’s wasteful spending or out-of-touch ways, the comments section is flooded with a ton of support for the YouTuber — especially regarding her recent health and wellness journey.

“she seems so much healthier and happier mentally being sober,” one person commented. “i love it for her.”

“Tana, honestly, this 75 hard is really working for you,” added someone else. “You look great, and you’re so clear and present. I’m just loving it.”

“You look so good, I mean complexion, your aura, and just your overall well being,” another person wrote.

Other viewers pointed out that the appeal of Mongeau’s videos isn’t so much about what she’s talking about at any given moment but how she’s talking about it.

“tana could make a 30 minute video talking about a brick wall and I’d watch the whole thing,” one YouTube user confessed.

“Casually telling us the prices like we can afford it and I love it,” another added.

Someone else said that Mongeau is “the only person who could make a luxury haul feel raw real and relatable.”

“omg i’m so obsessed with these hauls,” added another commenter, who said they “will forever be my favourite type of videos.”
