Zac Brown's Estranged Wife Kelly Yazdi Says She 'Will Not Be Silenced' amid Temporary Restraining Order Request

Kelly Yazdi has issued a response amid Zac Brown's temporary restraining order request.

In an Instagram post posted late Sunday, Yazdi, 33, shared a clip of herself speaking into a camera outside.

"Hey everyone, it's Kelly. I wanted to get on here to share with you that I've included my written statement in the caption of this video. This statement is very important to me, and I want to say thank you for reading and thank you for listening," she said in the May 19 clip.

Shared alongside the video was her "written statement" responding to her estranged husband's legal actions against her.

"No one — not even Zac Brown with all of his money, power, celebrity, and lawyers – may silence my right to freely express myself through art or, although I have to date declined to do so publicly, to speak about the circumstances of our pending divorce," Yazdi began. "I intend to respond swiftly and robustly to his meritless complaint that publication of two poems on my personal social media account divulged any “confidential information” about his business, much less authorizes a court to enjoin me from speaking about matters in my personal life that have nothing to do with my brief former work for the Zac Brown Collective, Inc."

She added that it was "beyond ironic" that the "Chicken Fried" artist, 45, released a music video — that is seemingly for "Beautiful Drug" — that "deliberately mocked our wedding party from only a few months before" just after filing an "unnecessary public divorce lawsuit."

Yazdi claimed that Brown used a "false" caricature of her and then followed the video with another public lawsuit and press release, despite claiming he wanted to keep "private matters private" during divorce negotiations.

"I have made no public response to either of those very public, very unnecessary personal attacks on me by my celebrity soon-to-be-ex-husband," she wrote. "But it is clearly Zac, not me, who has strategically chosen to drag our difficult divorce negotiations into the public eye with these tactics in an effort to portray himself as a victim and to use his vast resources to silence me from telling the truth about our marriage."

Yazdi concluded: "It will not work, and I will not be silenced by him no matter how ridiculous his tactics. Like Zac, I have lawyers too, and I will tell my truth in court — where he has unnecessarily dragged me. 🦋 #ButterfliesDontBelongInNets"

Last Dec. 29, the Zac Brown Band lead singer and Yazdi announced they were divorcing in a joint statement.

"We are in the process of divorce,” the former couple told TMZ. “Our mutual respect for one another remains. We wish each other the best and will always appreciate our time together. As we navigate this personal matter, we simply request privacy during this time.”

At the time, representatives for Brown and Yazdi did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.

On Saturday, May 4, Yazdi — a former employee of the Zac Brown Band from August 2022 to February 2024 — shared a post to Instagram with a caption that appeared to refer to her relationship with Brown.

The post also claimed that a person — only referred to as “he” — instructed her not to "model anymore," take photos off of her Instagram, only to wear certain clothing and not to "post anymore fitness videos."

"Projections. Gaslighting. Threatening. Stonewalling," she wrote in the post. "Those are the ingredients of narcissistic abuse."

On Friday, May 17, Brown filed for a temporary restraining order in Georgia's Fulton County against Yazdi after she published a number of Instagram posts, including the aforementioned one accusing him of "narcissistic abuse."

The temporary restraining order would force her to remove the post if granted.

Court documents filed by Brown's attorneys and obtained by PEOPLE said that Yazdi "has taken it upon herself to exact revenge upon Mr. Brown" and his company, and also ask her not to "[make] any public statement or disclosing any confidential or private information in violation of the terms of Ms. Yazdi's Employee and Confidentiality Agreements."

The "My Old Man" performer also alleged that his estranged wife violated an employee and confidentiality agreement from August 2022.

"After much deliberation, I took the steps necessary to enforce an agreement between us to maintain personal and business affairs in confidence and to protect my family from online harassment and speculation," Brown told PEOPLE in a statement. "My only hope is for us to keep private matters private and to move forward with the mutual respect we had agreed to show one another when we parted ways."

Yazdi did not return PEOPLE's request for comment on Saturday.
