Two of the the three people who were sent to the hospital for inhaling smoke after a fire had broken out at a Bukit Timah home on Sunday, were reportedly discharged from the hospital on Monday morning.

This was reported by Channel NewsAsia, adding that the third person - believed to be the home owner's mother - is still in the hospital; the mother is known to be a Buddhist priest.

The report also said that there were nine people in the house when the fire happened, and that the two who died were father and son while the remaining seven escaped.

Neighbours reportedly said that the unit was also used as a temple and that it was rented out to several tenants.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) earlier said that they sent three occupants to the National University Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire took place at 40 Jalan Gaharu and involved the contents of the unit. It was brought under control within 15 minutes, said the SCDF.

The SCDF had been alerted to the fire at 4:16am Sunday. “Our resources were immediately dispatched out to the location. Upon arrival, SCDF found the single storey unit well alight and immediately conducted fire fighting operations using three water jets,” according to the SCDF.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

From Google images, it appeared that part of the unit was being used as a temple.
