The body of a 58-year-old man was retrieved from Rochor Canal on Tuesday night (4 December), in what police have classified as a case of unnatural death.

In response to queries from Yahoo News Singapore, a spokesperson said that at about 8.25pm, the police were alerted to a case of a man drowning in Rochor Canal. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Yahoo News Singapore understands that the victim was a Singaporean of Indian ethnicity.

Content producer Stephanie Zheng, 29, was passing by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority building near Lavender MRT at around 9.50pm. “I wanted to take the bridge across Rochor Canal, but it had been blocked off by police,” said Zheng.

“I saw what looked like a blue tent on the bridge and a bare-bodied fireman changing clothes, so I guess he was in the water. I also saw two SCDF vehicles and an ambulance.”

Police are investigating.
