A 15-year-old Indonesian boy is missing after he fell into a flooded drain and was swept away during Wednesday's heavy downpour.

According to Channel NewsAsia, the boy who is identified as William, was walking along a flooded section of the road when he fell into the drain. He was then swept away by rushing water at the intersection of Mindu Road and Mandalay Road.

He was with two other friends, who tried to rescue him but the gushing water was too strong.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force was deployed at the scene to search the canal along Whampoa West and Serangoon Road. Search and rescue operations are still under way.
