In third place was Tan Jee Say, who received 529,732 votes, equivalent to 25.04 percent of the total, while coming in last was Tan Kin Lian with 103,931 votes, about 5 percent.

Spoilt votes numbered 37,826, a sizeable 1.75 per cent.

After the election results were announced by Returning Officer Yam Ah Mee, Dr Tony Tan said, "I plan to work my utmost for Singaporeans, whatever be their political affiliation."
