SAF regular dies during IPPT
A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman collapsed on Saturday morning while doing his Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT).
Major Toh Tze Wah Edi, 49, was at the halfway mark of the 2.4km run at Tengah Air Base (TAB) when he collapsed at 9.11 am, said the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) in a statement.
An on site SAF medic evacuated him to the TAB Medical Centre where an SAF doctor attended to him. Maj Toh was then sent via ambulance to the National University Hospital at 9.19 am and arrived at 9.44 am.
En route to the hospital, the SAF doctor and medic continued their attempts to resuscitate him.
Maj Toh was pronounced dead at 10.24am at NUH. He was an Air Warfare Officer from the Air Defence and Operations Command.
The Commander for Air Surveillance and Control Group, Colonel Gan Siow Huang said: "MAJ Edi Toh has contributed 29 years of service to the Republic of Singapore Air Force. He was highly regarded as a professional officer in the RSAF."
"A dedicated instructor for a significant part of his career, many of his trainees remember him fondly and are grateful to Edi for making a difference to their careers as Air Defence Controllers. His demise is a tragic loss to the organisation, and our hearts go out to his family."
MINDEF and the SAF have extended their deepest condolences to the family of the late Maj Toh. Mindef is also assisting the family in their time of grief and is investigating the incident.
