'Captain America' breaks Harry Potter's box-office spell

Comic book hero Captain America outdueled Harry Potter in this weekend's box office battle, earning an estimated $65.

8 million, industry estimates showed Sunday.

Paramount's "Captain America: The First Avenger" easily topped the $48 million that "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows -- Part 2" is anticipated to earn at the box office, industry tracker Exhibitor Relations reported.

The eighth and final episode about the boy wizard came in second place having taken in some $274 million total since its smash release in early July.

"Deathly Hallows'" records include one for single-day ticket sales ($92.1 million) and midnight premiere sales ($43.5 million), according to the box-office tracker.

In third place was the romantic comedy "Friends with Benefits" starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, with $18.5 million.

Fourth went to "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," with $12 million, while the dark comedy "Horrible Bosses," came in fifth with $11.7 million in estimated receipts.

In sixth place was "Zookeeper," which netted $8.7 million, according to Exhibitor Relations.

Disney's "Cars 2" brought in $5.7 million for seventh place, while another of its animated films, "Winnie the Pooh" was eighth with $5.1 million.

"Bad Teacher" held ninth place this weekend with $2.6 million, while Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris" held onto the 10th spot for a second consecutive week, earning $1.9 million.
