Donnie Yen hates make-up

18 May – Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen is reluctant to play Monkey King ever again due to its elaborate make-up requirements, according to TVB News as reported by Daily Chilli.

He was speaking at the recent Cannes International Film Festival to promote "The Monkey King", a RMB 4 billion movie scheduled for international release next year.

Donnie Yen is the lead and also the action choreographer of the 3D fantasy flick.

Donnie stated that the response about his film was very enthusiastic in Cannes and many foreign film buyers have shown interest in the film.

Donnie said: "I am very confident in the film... I hope it can be the Chinese 'Avatar'!"

He also stated that he would lend support to a sequel if there were any.

However, when Donnie was asked whether he would want to play the Monkey King again in a possible sequel, he said: "I really have to think about it. It's too hard, the make-up takes some six hours to complete."

"The Monkey King" boasts an A-list cast that includes Chow Yun Fat (as Jade Emperor), Aaron Kwok (as Buffalo Demon King), Kelly Chen (as Goddess of Mercy), Gigi Leung (as Chang'e) and Cecilia Cheung (as Nu Wa).
