Finally! Spotify ties up with Coca-Cola to launch in the Philippines

Music streaming site Spotify has officially entered the Philippines through a partnership with global brand Coca-Cola.

The Swedish based music streaming company Spotify soft launched in the country by partnering with Coca-Cola, a brand where most of us are familiar with. To sign up for Spotify in the Philippines, simply email social_cokeph@coca-cola.com with the email subject “Coca Cola Spotify”. The company will then send you a download link and the code to input to sign up for Spotify.

Once you emailed Coca Cola, there will be a welcome message from the team with instructions to sign up for the popular music streaming website.

As with other countries, there are 2 plans. The free plan allows you stream music for an unlimited period. However, there will be advertisements interrupting you from time to time. The second is of course a subscription plan. With P129.00 a month and you’ll get no advertisement interruptions plus the ability to download your music offline. The amount is roughly below $3 and very inexpensive, if we take into account the brand’s agreements with big music companies worldwide which allows you to stream and download music for free – and legally.

Music and Coca-Cola

For the longest time, the music industry has played an important role in Coca-Cola’s global marketing strategy. The company had already partnered with Spotify in the past in other countries and regions to increase its brand awareness. Through this partnership, Spotify will leverage on Coke’s global reach, while providing Coca Cola a new marketing platform.

Over the coming months, Coca-Cola will launch multiple online marketing campaigns to attract Spotify users in the country. Coca-Cola has already announced this partnership through its Facebook page and Twitter profile, inviting its fans to try out Spotify.

As a major player in the music streaming industry, it has digital music rights from leading music companies such as Sony and Warner Music Group. Users can listen to music and create playlists that can be shared with your friends.

In this age of piracy and that people constantly looks for ways to download music for free, Spotify remains bullish in its premium model, and has so far been successful in attracting users. To date, it has over 24 million active users with 6 million of them as paying subscribers.

The music streaming industry in the Philippines and and Southeast Asia has been thriving as a whole, from western-focused Grooveshark to Paris-based Deezer which focuses on local artists.

With Spotify launching its music streaming site in the Philippines, it will be competing head on with some music streaming startups that have different business models, such as Amplify, Ndfy, and Radio Republic. With its launch in the Philippines too, music lovers will definitely have more options to choose from now.
