Global sensation Freddiew charts in China, Japan

Nicovideo: Real LIfe Mario Kart

Freddie Wong's popular effects-laden videos notch chart positions on China's Youku and Japan's Nicovideo websites for the week ending March 31, illustrating the Chinese-American's growing worldwide popularity.

Real Life Mario Kart, first uploaded to YouTube on February 17, was duplicated on Nicovideo on February 21 and by March 31 had become the service's most viewed gaming video.

First Person Super Mario is a much more recent upload, making its YouTube debut on March 17.

Almost immediately, Youku users picked up on it, propelling it to third in the weekly gaming chart by the month's end.

So where is he in YouTube's gaming chart? Freddie and his compatriots at the Facerocker effects studio were once regular fixtures in the Gaming section but, in late 2010 and with a large subscriber base, they started experimenting with other categories.

Now, more often than not, their work can be found riding high in the Entertainment section as is the case with this week's number two, Real UFO Sighting.
