HDB releases 900 flats under PPHS

By Nikki De Guzman:

The Housing and Development Board (HDB) launched yesterday 900 flats for application under the Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS).

Aside from first-timer married couples waiting for the completion of their new HDB homes, couples without children may also apply for the flats. However, priority allocation will be given to those with citizen children below 16 years of age.

Introduced in January, the PPHS aims to cater affordable housing mainly for first-timer married couples with children while they wait for the completion of new HDB flats. The flats, which are mainly vacated Selective En-bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS) flats, are rented from S$800 to S$1,900 monthly, depending on the type and location. The units come with basic fittings.

Married couples who would apply for PPHS must: (1) have signed the Agreement for Lease of an uncompleted flat offered under the HDB Build-To-Order (BTO) or Sale of Balance Flats (SBF) Exercise; (2) form a first-timer Singapore Citizen (SC) household in the BTO/SBF application; and (3) not be owners of an existing HDB flat, unless they are co-owners of the existing flat with other family members and undertake to relinquish their ownership in the existing flat within six months after taking possession of the PPHS flat.

The application period runs until 29 Apr 2013 via the HDB InfoWEB or ekiosks at HDB Hub/ Branches. The selection process will be done in Q3 2013, based on their balloted queue positions.
