According to a recent Freelancer.com survey, Web-related jobs are in-demand.
Freelance workers might wonder about the industries currently trending in the online job marketplace. Freelancer.com has the answers. According to its latest survey, The 50 fastest growing online job trends, web-related projects have dominated the top five categories. Web Hosting, Website Testing and Website Management are ranked first, third and fourth ahead of software testing and engineering in second and fifth place respectively.
The data in the list were compiled from a total of 261,003 jobs posted on the site over last year’s third and fourth quarter. To give us the picture of the site and the job market itself, Freelancer is dubbed as the largest outsourcing marketplace in the world, accounting for nearly 7 million members and more than 4 million jobs posted to date.

CEO Matt Barrie stated that the objective of the survey is “to provide insights into ups and downs in the demand for skills, technologies, products and performance of companies through analysis of over one hundred thousand jobs per quarter being posted online.”
Preparation for the holidays – Christmas, New Year and their holiday closures – are among the periods with the highest traffic and sales for e-commerce players, which can explain the spike in software and website testing, as well as website management jobs.
More businesses are adopting cloud platforms and services, which is acknowledged as the rationale behind the growth of web hosting with Amazon Web Services and its EC2.
Microsoft Word and PowerPoint are still soaring, while the demand for Windows desktop apps is climbing up particularly with the release of Windows 8. Even though the jobs aren’t in the list, the outsourcing marketplace disclosed that Apple iOS-related jobs have declined for the very first time with 3.8% for iPhone and 14% drop for iPad.
On the other hand, what has happened to its rival is no surprise for most of us. As more and more users are using Google’s Android platform, focusing on this operating system has paid off for developers,with a 7% rise in jobs or 4,282 jobs in all.
Interestingly, social media and Internet marketing projects continue to decline due to the effects of Google’s constant tweaks to its search platform. Facebook, Twitter, Internet Marketing and SEO are experiencing single digit declines across the board. As such, the industry might question the viability of using social networks as advertising platforms. Apparently marketers are returning to the conventional methods, such as email marketing, which saw a 186% increase.
