Like many Malaysian, I first set foot to a new world through the gate of Tanjong Pagar train station in 80's and eventully choice to settle down in Singapore. However, I have continue to use Tanjong Pagar station as a gate way and passing through it's gate in a out countless of times whenever I go back home town.
As more transport options are available in later date, I have reduced going to the station. However, I have never forget those day travelling with KTM through Tanjong Pagar station.
By this hour, the station has gone to the history, it is sad to see the gate close forever. However, I will never forget it change my lift by going through this gate. Thank you Tanjong Pagar and KTM. It will stay in my memory for a long long time.
I'm looking forward the building will reopen soon for it's new life.

    Don't be sad, people.
This is not the end of KTM.
This is just the end of the KTM station at Tanjong Pagar and the stretch of railways from Tanjong Pagar to Woodlands station.

KTM will still exist, until Malaysia decides otherwise.
You still can take KTM from Woodlands station to whatever place in Malaysia that it serves

I began my carrier with KTMB (then known as the Malayan Railway) at this station in December 1961, After serving for about 2 years I was transferred to Peninsular Malaysia. I served for the second time at this station from December 1975 to 1978, My third and final service at this station was from 1994 to December 1997 when I was appointed as the Southern Regional Manager, looking after KTMB's operations and commercial activities in Singapore and Johore.I have fond memories of the happenings at this station, especially during the sixties when the Allied Forces had a office at the back of the current Ticketing Office for soldiers to report their movements whenever they arrive or depart by train. There was no Singapore or Malaysian Immigration officials located at the station and one could travel freely between Johor and Singapore without any documents. The original station cafeteria was located at the now disused waiting hall along platform 1. The location of the current cafeteria was actually KTMB,s District Superintendent,s Office prior to shifting to Johor Bahru.Of course its sad to see the train operations coming to an end after so many years, but we have to look at the big picture and move forward for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Is there any place left in Singapore that is not demolished & rebuild???? except president & pm residents - so much so that even Singaporeans hv a hard time recognising the area - anyway so much restructuring in tis tiny island.. only leading to disaster... like when ION came up - flood too came up in orchard.. so let's wait & c next wat disaster coming...

I really hope they will keep the building. Renovate and really clean it up. Stop banishing all the culture we have left in Singapore. There's nothing left already, no more memories, no more good old times... and now when we look back there is nothing to look back, behind us is just an empty street.
