LTA, SMRT form team to help minimise train disruptions

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and beleaguered train operator SMRT have assembled a team of rail experts to look into the recent string of MRT disruptions over the past week and explore ways to minimise such incidents.

According to The Straits Times, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said on Saturday that the disruptions were “not acceptable”.

The latest train disruption at the Circle Line on Wednesday morning lasted for 2.5 hours and affected about 18,000 people.

A train fault at Jurong East MRT station on Tuesday delayed the travel of thousands of commuters, while a similar incident happened Friday evening last week, causing a half-an-hour delay between Pasir Ris and Tanah Merah MRT stations.

This development follows the start of an inquiry into two major train breakdowns last year.
