mig33 is world’s 7th fastest growing social platform, Koprol still lives
Trendstream’s Global Web Index has just released a chart on social platform growth in the world. Unsurprisingly, the GlobalWebIndex shows that the number of active Twitter users grew 40 percent from second quarter 2012 to fourth quarter 2012, making it the fastest growing social platform in the world now.
What is interesting for us in this region is that, Singapore-based mig33, is ranked seventh on the chart, outranking the growth of Pinterest. Pinterest, which claimed to be one of the fastest growing website in the history of Internet , is now the eight fastest growing social platform, according to Global Web Index. The chart shows that mig33 has witnessed almost 20 percent increase in its active users since June 2012.
Launched in late 2005, mig33 has now grown to be one of the world’s largest social entertainment platform companies. mig33 allows users from all over the world to talk, chat, play games, organize online parties, and thrive as their virtual personas. mig33 currently connects over 65 million registered members around the world and hosts a fast-growing virtual economy. Headquartered in Singapore, mig33 has a strong consumer presence in Indonesia, South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. They have raised a total of US$32.4 million in funding to date, according to Crunchbase .

While mig33 is is growing fast, they certainly still have a long way to go before actually overtaking Pinterest in terms of number of users.
One more thing, did anyone else notice Koprol on the list?
For those who are unfamiliar with Koprol, the Foursquare of Indonesia , was acquired in 2012 by Yahoo!. Unlike other startups with happy endings, Yahoo! had to shut down Koprol as part of its latest move to drive innovation within a leaner, more focused company. There was much outcry from the local community because the whole Koprol team had to be laid off. However, back in July last year, Yahoo! “resurrected” Koprol, and transferred the Koprol trademarks back to original Koprol founders.
