Number of internet-connected devices could reach 15 bn by 2015: Cisco

Washington, June 3 (ANI): Technology giant Cisco has predicted that the number of internet-connected devices could reach by 15 billion by 2015.

The Daily Mail quoted Cisco as saying that the recent growth in mobile phones and tablets has already pushed the number of devices above the five billion mark, and that the latest technical developments, including internet-connected televisions and cars, will drive a new surge in appliance use in the next four years.

The company also said that 40 percent of the world's population, nearly three billion people, would be connected to Internet by the middle of this decade.

It further estimated that Internet traffic would reach 80 exabytes a month by 2015, adding that consumer video could even dominate internet traffic with one million minutes of video being played every second by the same period of time.

"What you are seeing is this massive growth in devices, the way devices are being used and are connected to the internet, and what users expect them to do," the paper quoted Suraj Shetty, Cisco Vice President for global marketing, as saying. (ANI)
