SAF regular found dead, hanging from rope in Lentor training area

Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman, 1st Warrant Officer (1WO) Rajendran S/O Pachemuthu, 51, was found hanging from a rope in an SAF training area in Lentor on Tuesday.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), two civilian contractors, who were maintaining SAF training equipment, noticed the incident and reported it to Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Ong Chin Sai, a commander from Engineers Training Institute.

He proceeded to the site immediately to verify and made a police report at 12.20 pm.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and SAF ambulances arrived on site at around 12.25 pm.

1WO Rajendran was unconscious and without pulse, and the SCDF paramedic pronounced him dead on site.

MINDEF added there was no SAF training conducted in the area on Monday or Tuesday.

The police are investigating the incident.

The MINDEF and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late 1WO Rajendran. The SAF is also assisting the family during this difficult period.
