Singapore woman survives getting hand stuck in a meat grinder

A woman was sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital after her hand was caught in a meat grinder in a factory on Thursday morning.

A woman’s hand was caught in a meat grinder in a factory on Thursday morning.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they received a call at 10:11am, at a fifth-floor unit at Food Xchange at  Admiralty Street. Local newspaper The Straits Times reported that the incident occurred at the factory floor of The Gourmet Pie Company.

The 30-year-old woman’s right hand, up to her wrist, had gotten caught in an industrial meat grinder machine.

SCDF personnel arrived within five minutes of the call and dismantled the machine. However, a  piece of the machine was still attached to her hand.

The woman was sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, and an SCDF spokesman said that the woman was still conscious when she arrived at the hospital. At the hospital’s A&E department, SCDF’s Disaster And Rescue Team (DART) personnel further dismantled the piece still attached to the hand.

It was reported that the woman’s right hand is still intact after it was removed from the machine.

When contacted by Yahoo Singapore, The Gourmet Pie Company refused comment, saying “it’s a personal matter”.
