U.S. based RSAF serviceman’s wife killed in road accident

Tragedy struck the family of a Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) serviceman based in the U.S. state of Idaho after a road accident claimed the life of his wife and injuring other family members last Friday.

Idaho State Police was quoted by news website KTVB.COM as saying the deceased, Ah Hoon Pey, 33, was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown off from the van when the accident took place within Elmo County around 6:30pm local time. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The news site reported that 34-year-old serviceman Boon Lim, who serves in the 428th Fighter Squadron, was behind the wheels and driving towards Mountain Home where the family lives.

He was said to have tried to pass another vehicle when he lost control, resulting in the vehicle rolling over. Witnesses also said that it was raining when the accident occurred.

Lim, his three children and another adult passenger Ging Fong Chin – believed to be Peh’s mother – were also in the van and sustained injuries. According to KTVB.COM, Ging and two of the children were sent to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

However, another child is in critical condition, and is hospitalised at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital. While two of the children were in child safety seats, one of them was not wearing a seatbelt, said police.

Colonel Ron Buckley, 366th Fighter Wing commander was quoted by the news site as saying that the Mountain Home Air Force Base are “mourning the tragic loss of an essential member of our Gunfighter family”. He added that their thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Lim.
