Woman and young boy rescued from fire in Punggol flat

Fire fighters rescued a woman and a young boy after a fire broke out in a Punggol flat. (Google Street View)

A woman in her 60s and her 4-year-old grandson were rescued by fire fighters on Monday morning after a fire broke out in the bedroom of a HDB flat in Punggol.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the fire at the 17th storey unit of BLK 167D Punggol East at 9:47am.

Fire fighters broke into the house to rescue the woman and the boy, who both suffered from smoke inhalation.

The young boy was taken to Kandang Kerbau Women’s and Children’s Hospital, while the woman, who also suffered from first degree burns, was taken to the Singapore General Hospital.

According to the SCDF,  the fire was put out in under 10 minutes using a water jet.

Residents living above and below the unit had also been evacuated for as a safety precaution.
