10 countries that are under threat of climate change

A United Nation’s report states that the last two decades have seen a near doubling of natural disasters, and climate change is largely to blame for these. As per the report, political and business leaders are failing in their job of ensuring that the earth does not turn into an ‘uninhabitable hell.’

According to the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), 7,348 major disasters have taken place between 2000 and 2019. This has caused huge losses in lives, livelihoods and the economy. A total of 1.23 million lives have been lost while 4.2 billion people have been affected. These disasters have caused the economy USD 2.97 trillion.

The list of the top 10 most vulnerable countries in the world, threatened by climate change, sees a mix of high income, middle income and low-income countries, confirming the fact that extreme weather conditions affect all. However, the impact of these extreme weather conditions brought out by climate change is felt the most in low-income countries, which may not have the capacity to withstand the wreckage brought out by them.
