100 HDB projects chosen for upgrading programme

100 projects across 22 constituencies have been selected for the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP) since its launch in 2007.

From FY 2007 to FY 2013, about $150 million has been disbursed under the programme, the Ministry of National Development (MND) revealed in Parliament today.

Projects are selected for the programme at the Town Council level. This allows MND to ensure a good geographical spread of projects, while at the same time better meet the preferences of the Town Councils. As part of the selection process, Town Councils are required to nominate and prioritise their preferred precincts and MND will strive to meet them within the limits of the approved Neighbourhood Renewal Programme budget, the ministry said.

Fully funded by the government, the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme was introduced in August 2007. The programme focuses on block and precinct improvements, and is implemented on a larger area basis of two or more contiguous precincts.

Blocks built up to 1989 and have not undergone the Main Upgrading Programme (MUP), Interim Upgrading Programme (IUP) or IUP Plus are eligible for NRP. From FY 2015 onwards, the programme is extended to include blocks built up to 1995.
