15 COVID deaths in Aug: 2 S'poreans, aged 86 and 95, succumb to virus

SINGAPORE — Two more patients have died from COVID-19 complications in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (25 August), bringing the total death toll here to 52.

Altogether, 15 in Singapore have succumbed to COVID-19 this month.

One of them is an 86-year-old Singaporean man who died on Tuesday and was first reported as a case on 28 July. He had been partially vaccinated against the coronavirus disease.

The man had been admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for an unrelated medical condition on 1 July, and tested negative for COVID-19 multiple times.

Another test taken on 28 July came back positive for COVID-19.

"He had been partially vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of cancer, cardiomyopathy, chronic kidney disease, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia," said the MOH.

The second fatality is a 95-year-old Singaporean woman who died on Wednesday. She had not been vaccinated against the COVID-19.

She was first reported as a case on 9 August. The woman had developed symptoms four days prior and tested positive for COVID-19 on 9 August after being admitted to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.

"She had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of Alzheimer’s disease," said the MOH.

This comes two days after the ministry confirmed one COVID-19 related death. Prior to that, two deaths were announced last Sunday.

Ten others had also earlier succumbed to the virus in August: a 34-year-old Ukrainian man on 1 August, a 58-year-old Singaporean woman on 2 August, a 79-year-old Singaporean man on 4 August, a 63-year-old Singaporean man on 5 August, an 80-year-old Singaporean woman on 7 August, a 69-year-old Singaporean man on 11 August, an 84-year-old Singaporean man on 13 August, a 64-year-old Singaporean man last Monday, a 90-year-old Singaporean man last Tuesday, and an 82-year-old Singaporean man last Thursday.
