Twenty-three Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers are facing disciplinary action for trashing their dorm room.

Two video clips showing officers from the 20th Section Commander Course (SCC)  misbehaving and damaging property at the Civil Defense Academy were posted online and went viral in April this year. Many members of the public were outraged by the behavior of those in the video.

In the clips, officers were seen smoking in the dorm, and bed frames and mattress were strewn around the room.

In a statement to the media, SCDF said nine regulars and 14 National Service Full-time (NSF) officers were involved, to varying degrees, in the incident.

“The 9 regulars are facing civil service disciplinary actions and are liable for punishments ranging from letter of warning to dismissal, depending on the extent of their involvement in the incident,” said the statement.

The 14 NSFs have been charged under the Civil Defence Act and their punishment ranges from a fine to detention and demotion, depending on the severity of their involvement, said SCDF.

In addition, five SCDF regular officers with supervisory roles in the 20th SCC are facing disciplinary actions with a view to letters of warning or advice.

The SCDF added, "Such behaviour does not reflect the culture and discipline expected of all SCDF officers."
