3 Great Places for Sunday Champagne Brunches in KL

Sunday brunches are an institution, an event that can start midmorning and continue until late afternoon, a ritual in which eggs Benedict, fresh seafood, and succulent roast beef, are routinely washed down by a seemingly endless stream of clear, yellow, bubbly liquid. Trying to suppress the giggles is just futile. Go with the flow, and you will truly have a good time. Oh yes, Sunday brunches are indeed fun and they eliminate the need to wake up early for breakfast. The are associated with being indulgent, involving snobs, wannabes and the "tai-tai" crowd (rich, non working, married ladies) but one things for sure, brunch still has its place in Kuala Lumpur.

Some might consider it an opportunity to pig out on a huge buffet line, while others are in it for the free flow champagne. Whatever it is, brunch is a great excuse to hang out with family and friends, and not too bad a way, of spending a Sunday.

Here are 3 great Places to go to, for Sunday Champagne Brunches in KL :

1. Sunday Champagne Brunch @ Prego, The Westin KL

Champagne corks are always popping somewhere in the world of course, and the high life never disappears entirely, especially on Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. And now that once expensive tipple nick-named the “bubbly” , has become accessible to so many more, in the form of champagne brunches that are far more than just a boozy meal.

No, boozy brunches are not new, and here at Prego, The Westin KL, your cup and your plate, truly runneth over. Which begs the question, are you bubbalicious enough to handle this brunch?

Themed aptly as bubbalicious, this brunch draws many from from far and near Kuala Lumpur. Some of our celebrity friends from across the straits even made it to Prego at the Westin KL, and there’s little wonder at the fame of this brunch. Priced at only RM268++ per person, you get to indulge in some of the finest cooking styles in KL, right now, courtesy of Chef Garth Welsh who is the Director of Kitchens at the Westin KL. Bubbalicious is a Westin inspired branded brunch concept featured in over 5 different Westins throughout Asia Pacific and served from 11.30am to 3pm.

Yes indeed, Prego’s Sunday Bubbly Brunch is all about the luxury of dining and just check out the premium oysters from Donegal, Ireland. There’s also heaps of pizzas to choose from – wood-fired oven signature pizzas are served by the waiters who wonder around with platters of food. Is there any wonder your plate will never be empty? Speaking of never empty, the jumbo sized G.H. Mumm champagne bottle really stole the show. First time I’ve ever drunk from such a large bottle.

Chefs and service attendants are attentive, and they will come around to your table with trays of BBQ meat sausages, lamb, beef, fish on skewers and even some rather interesting looking “tentacles” that left a lasting impression! Pastas, gnocchi, risotto, all manner of poached, baked and whisked eggs, are amongst other hearty selections to excited the tastebuds. Magic and magicians roamed freely at the bubbly brunch, and I’m not sure if it was our intoxicated heads or their rather slick routine, but they were pretty impressive.

Prego’s Sunday Bubbly Brunch is the perfect opportunity for a get together with friends and family, minus the stress and double the fun. Kids of guests who dine in for The Westin’s weekend brunches receive complimentary usage of Westin Kids Club on Level 4 from 1130am to 4pm. The staff at the Westin KL entertain the kids whilst the adults dine at their leisure. There’s a rather cool area for the kids to play and hangout – a resident clown is there to entertain and prescribe the best medicine in town – laughter! There’s also game boards, plays stations and a story-telling sessions and games to keep the kids occupied.

2. Sparkalite Sunday Brunch @ InterContinental KL

Champagne and Brunches go hand in hand, and the latest, newest place to have brunch on a Sunday as you enjoy, not one, nor two.. but a choice of three sparkling wines, would be at Serena Brasserie, at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.

“Sparkalite”, the theme of its new Sunday brunch, features some fantastic culinary creations of Executive Chef, Darell O’Neill. There is a great selection of Australian cuisine to choose from – ranging from heavy BBQ red meats, to the hearty meat pies and finally famous Australian desserts such as the Rocky Road. The Rocky Road incidentally was invented in Australia in 1853 as a way of selling confectionery spoiled by the long journey from Europe, and here at InterContinental they make it so scrumptious you won’t be able to get enough.

Sparkalite also features seven live action stations as well as a spread of fresh seafood, sushi, sashimi, an indoor carving station, hot and cold dishes right from steaks to grills to sandwiches and ending off with desserts.

The choice of bubbly at Sparkalite is amazing – Sparkling Wines such as an Australian Seppelt Stony Peak Brut NV, an Italian Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore and a French Arthur Metz Cremant D’Alsace Brut will be on free flow throughout the brunch. There are also interesting DIY colorful cocktails to choose from but if bubbles are not what you are looking for, have instead some Australian whites or reds or even beer to go with your meal. Try your hand at making your own Mimosa, Kir Royal or Bellini with mixers and get as creative as you like with your bubbles.

The Live Action Stations include Bruce’s Australian Barbeque – grilled fresh to order. And you can pick from Sirloin, Lamb Chops, Chicken or Beef Sausages, Chicken, Tiger Prawns, Marinated Tuna Steaks, Butter Fish or Slipper Lobster. Alternatively you could try your hand at building your Own Burgers. Check out the Mini Angus Beef Sliders and Mini Chicken Satay Sliders for some cool action station fun.

And if the heat at the live stations outside gets too much, try traipsing inside to the roast station. This has got to be my all time favourite station – traditional roasts are a must! Marinated Roasted Whole Rib with traditional trimmings such as Yorkshire Pudding, Roasted Vegetables such as Pumpkin, Carrots and Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts drenched in brown sauce are just the best thing on earth.

3. Sunday Carvery Roast @ The Ritz-Carlton KL

There are at least two opinions on the origins of the Sunday Roast. One holds that, during the industrial revolution, Yorkshire families left a cut of meat in the oven before going to church on a Sunday morning, which was then ready to eat by the time they arrived home at lunchtime. The second opinion holds that the Sunday Roast dates back to medieval times, when serfs would assemble in a field and practice their battle techniques and were rewarded with a feast of oxen roasted on a spit.

Well, whichever story you believe, they were still both mighty fine reasons to indulge in a Roast. Well, one of the terrific places a good old fashioned Sunday Roast is at The Ritz-Carlton KL. It’s got everything you could hope for in a Sunday Roast, and more. They don’t stop at just the traditional carving meats.

There is a lush spread of lobsters, oysters, mussels, salmon and all sorts of fresh seafood as well. Not to mention a massive selection of imported cheeses and desserts. This place is truly a Sunday Roast paradise. Chef Yoann Bernard – Executive Chef at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the man responsible for a rather magnificent buffet spread which will have you clutching at your stomach from the shear quantity of food.
