SINGAPORE — No casualties were reported at a fire that broke out in a shophouse in Little India on Thursday afternoon (16 May), said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

In a Facebook post, the SCDF said that they responded to a fire at 14 Dickson Road at about 2.50pm on Thursday. The fire, which was extinguished at 4.10pm, had involved the contents of a two-storey shophouse.

12 emergency vehicles and about 40 firefighters were deployed to fight the fire, said the SCDF.

“At the height of the operations, six handheld jets were used to bring the fire under control,” it added.

To prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring units, protective water jets were also strategically deployed along the boundary between adjoining shophouses.

As of 5.30pm on Thursday, damping down operations, a term used by the SCDF to describe the application of water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after the fire is put out, were ongoing.
