63 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, 17 unlinked

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (11 August) reported 63 new cases of COVID-19 in Singapore, bringing the country's total to 65,953 infections.

Of them, 61 are locally transmitted with 33 linked to previous cases and have already been placed on quarantine, 11 linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance, and 17 are unlinked.

"Amongst the cases are three seniors above 70 years who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and are at risk of serious illness," MOH said.

The remaining two cases are imported, and was detected and isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

A 69-year-old Singaporean man died of COVID-19 on Wednesday (11 August), the sixth such fatality in Singapore so far this month.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 758 cases in the week before to 448 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has fallen from 227 cases in the week before to 129 cases in the past week. The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 45.6 and 18.4 respectively.

There are three new clusters on Wednesday. They are Superland Pre-School (Kreta Ayer Community Centre) with three new cases (total: four), a cluster named after Case 67982 with five new cases (total: six), and a cluster named after Case 66838 with one new case (total: three)

Two new cases have been added to the Jurong Fishery Port/ Hong Lim Market & Food Centre cluster – the biggest in Singapore since the start of the pandemic – bringing the total of 1,151 infections. There is no new case added to the KTV lounges/clubs cluster – the second biggest ever cluster.

There are currently 118 active clusters.

A total of 508 cases are currently warded in hospital. There are currently 35 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and eight in critical condition in the ICU. Seven amongst these 43 cases are fully vaccinated. Of those who have fallen very ill, 36 are seniors above 60 years, of whom 29 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated who became severely ill or died is 8.7 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 0.9 per cent.

As of Tuesday, about 8.19 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme. Some 4.38 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine, with some 3.94 million having completed the full vaccination regimen.

Separately, 138,879 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of Tuesday, covering 82,406 individuals.

This means that 72 per cent of the population have completed their full regimen, or received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 81 per cent have received at least one dose.
