Accident on PIE: Six taken to hospital after chain collision involving six cars and taxi

Accident occurs on the same day as another multi-vehicle accident in Tampines, which resulted in two deaths

SINGAPORE —Six individuals were taken to hospital after a chain collision involving six cars and a taxi on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Monday evening (22 April).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police told Yahoo Southeast Asia on Tuesday that they were alerted to the accident along the PIE towards Tuas before the Bukit Timah Expressway exit at around 9.40pm.

Two male drivers, aged 34 and 37, and four female passengers, aged between seven and 46, were taken to the hospital conscious, according to the police.

Three people were taken to the National University Hospital, while another three were taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Footage reveals aftermath of expressway collision

A video circulating on the messaging platform Telegram captured the aftermath of the incident, showing six vehicles, including a red Trans-Cab taxi, blocking the two left-most lanes of the expressway.

The footage revealed that at least four cars sustained damage, with their boot compartments, car hoods, or both, crumpled inward. Police cars, a fire engine, and five ambulances attended to the scene.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The chain collision on the PIE occurred after another multi-vehicle accident on the same day.

The earlier incident, which happened in Tampines, led to the deaths of a 17-year-old first-year student from Temasek Junior College and a 57-year-old woman who was a passenger in a van owned by a pest control company.
