Adenan to plead clemency for death row Sarawakian in Singapore

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said he will write to the Singaporean government to spare the life of a Sarawakian who is on death row in the island city state after being convicted for murder. Adenan in a statement said that he will appeal for clemency for the 31 year-old Miri resident, Kho Jabing, who in 2007 was sentenced to death by the Singapore High Court for causing the death of a Chinese citizen there. Kho, who had gone to the island republic to work as a labourer, was to be hanged at the Changi Prison last Friday. The Singapore Court of Appeal at the 11th hour granted Jabing, a stay of execution on Thursday after his newly appointed lawyer Chandra Mohan K. Nair convinced the court to give him more time to prepare another appeal. Adenan's response came after appeals made by Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri and Stampin MP Julian Tan. Nancy in a meeting with Adenan on Tuesday made the plea for the state government to take up the case. Tan, who said he is not downplaying the seriousness of his crime, pleaded to the state government and Putrajaya “to take up the plight of Kho Jabing and his family as well as explore all necessary avenues to allow this man a chance to life and a chance for rehabilitation”. – November 13, 2015.
