Ah Yat Seafood, Zam Zam among 6 F&B outlets ordered to close for SMM breaches
SINGAPORE — Six food-and-beverages (F&B) outlets were ordered to close, after they were found to have breached safe management measures (SMMs) amid enhanced checks by government agencies.
In a media release on Wednesday (10 February), the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) said the six outlets are:
Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant (200 Turf Club Road): The restaurant was found to have allowed a company dinner, comprising 65 people across nine tables, to take place on its premises on Saturday. The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has issued an order requiring the operator to close the premises for 10 days from 10 to 19 February.
East Treasure Chinese Restaurant (3B River Valley Road): The restaurant was found to have accepted a group of 16 diners seated across two tables on 29 January. Investigations revealed that the gathering was a dinner organised by a company for its employees. The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has issued an order requiring the operator to close the premises for 10 days from 10 to 19 February. The company was also fined $1,000, while the 16 diners were each fined $300.
Crystal Jade Jiang Nan (VivoCity): The restaurant was found to have accepted a booking for 16 diners from different households and seated them across two tables on Saturday. Enterprise Singapore has issued an order requiring the operator to close the premises for 10 days from 10 to 19 February. Investigations are continuing.
Ding Garden (191B New Bridge Road): The restaurant was found to have accepted a booking for 13 diners from different households and seated them across three tables on Friday. The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has issued an order requiring the operator to close the premises for 10 days from 6 to 15 February. The 13 diners involved were each fined $300.
Wangzi Music Restaurant (19 New Bridge Road): The restaurant was found to have allowed diners to consume alcohol at 2.30am on Saturday. STB has issued an order requiring the operator to close the premises for 20 days from 6 to 25 February.
Zam Zam (697-699 North Bridge Road): The restaurant was found to have seated different groups of diners less than one metre apart on Friday. The outlet also had two previous offences that occurred on 22 May and 19 December last year, for which it was fined $1,000 and $2,000 respectively. URA has issued an order requiring the operator to close the premises for 10 days from 9 to 18 February.
Banana Leaf Apolo to be charged for multiple SMM breaches
STB has also filed a Magistrate’s Complaint on 20 January against the operator of the Banana Leaf Apolo restaurant branch at 48 Serangoon Road.
The F&B operator will be charged on 17 February for the following breaches: failing to ensure that individuals in its premises did not exceed the maximum permissible group size; failing to ensure at least one metre safe distancing between seated customers; providing a self-service buffet of food for consumption; and allowing customers to make speeches and play a video recording in its premises.
Four more F&B outlets were each fined $1,000 of seating groups of diners less than a metre apart: Chuan Garden (1 Pagoda Street), Eating House (26 Jalan Membina, #01-10), Kim’s Family Food Korea Restaurant (177 Telok Ayer Street) and Sichuan Restaurant (72 Pagoda Street).
Another outlet – Eating House (34 Upper Cross Street #01-170) – was fined $2,000 for repeat offences of seating diners less than a metre apart.
Finally, 73 individuals were each fined $300 for breaching SMMs in parks and beaches managed by the National Parks Board during the past weekend.
Breaches include gathering in groups of more than eight people and intermingling between groups. In Changi Beach Park alone, 39 individuals were fined, including 17 who were caught gathering in one group.
