AirAsia’s In-Flight WiFi Lets You WhatsApp Friends For RM5

(From L-R) Malaysia Book of Records Founder & Managing Director Danny Ooi, AirAsia Bhd CEO Aireen Omar, Communication & Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Tunebox CEO Adrian Lim smile for the press at the launch of AirAsia’s on-board Wi-Fi on November 11, 2014.

AirAsia launched its in-flight Wi-Fi service today. Called “roKKi Chats”, the service allows passengers to use instant messaging apps while on-board.

For just RM5, passengers will be entitled for 3MB data usage on WhatsApp, Line and WeChat.

That’s the introductory price for “a limited time”, says the budget carrier. The regular price is RM8.

AirAsia says it rolled out this service in order to cater to the needs of its passengers.

“Wi-Fi connectivity is definitely ‘top-of-the-list’ for most travellers, especially while flying,” says AirAsia Berhad’s Chief Executive Officer, Aireen Omar.

“We are proud to be the first in Malaysia to offer this service at the most affordable rate”.

Developed by TuneBox, roKKi Chats will initially be available on select flights. It will be expanded to 19 planes by the end of the year.

Other services such as access to email and social media sites will be made available in 2015.
