AKBus for disaster victims

18 Apr – AKB48 has donated 30 AKB48-themed buses to the three prefectures that were badly affected by the Tohoku Earthquake.

According to Tokyo Hive, the keys of the buses, or 'AKBus' as they were called, were presented to the mayor of Yamamoto City from the Miyagi prefecture in a presentation ceremony at the Kleenex Stadium. Ten of the buses would also be going to the Iwata and Fukushima prefecture.

The buses would be used as town buses or transportation for school children during the opening of the new school year in Japan.

Members who were present during the presentation ceremony were Itano Tomomi, Kasai Tomomi, Kashiwagi Yuki, Kitahara Rie, Kuramochi Asuka, Kojima Haruna, Sashihara Rino, Shinoda Mariko, Takajo Aki, Maeda Atsuko, Minegishi Minami, Miyazawa Sae and Yokohama Yui.

They also performed nine songs, including "Give Me Five" and "Heavy Rotation", for their first performance in Miyagi in five months since their last visit to the victims of the Tohoku Earthquake.

The AKBuses were part of their charity project to aid the recovery efforts from the Tohoku Earthquake. The idol group has also managed to raise 1.25 billion Yen (approximately SG $19.23 million) during the duration of the project that were donated.
