Anthony plans Kwan Tak Hing biopic

5 Apr – Although the "Ip Man" franchise recently ended its production, "Ip Man: The Final Fight" lead actor Anthony Wong is not taking a break, revealing that he is in talks of producing a movie about veteran actor Kwan Tak Hing, who is famous for playing the role of martial arts legend, Wong Fei Hung.

Speaking to the media at the "Ip Man 3" narrative service event held by the Hong Kong Society for the Blind, the actor revealed that although there is no more "Ip Man" movie after this, he, Eric Tsang and director Herman Yau is currently planning to make a biopic about Kwan Tak Hing.

Anthony is also rather confident about playing the screen legend because he is familiar with both Kwan Tak Hing and Wong Fei Hung. The actor stated, "Eric Tsang said that aside from me, no one could play him. Maybe it's because I am old, but still can perform some moves despite my wrinkles!"

The late actor Kwan Tak Hing had played the role of martial artist folk hero Wong Fei Hung between the 1940s and the 1980s in at least 77 films. No one else in cinema history has portrayed the same person as many times.

Meanwhile, Anthony expressed his satisfaction at the "Ip Man 3" box office, which was reported to have already exceeded HKD5 million.

The actor expressed, "Viewers say that Master Ip Man was very well played. Some say that I am the coolest Ip Man? Thank you very much!"

However, when asked if he thinks he is a better Ip Man actor than "The Grandmaster" actor Tony Leung, Anthony laughingly replied, "Who is cooler between me and Tony Leung? Are you dumb? Of course it's Tony! Who is there, in the entire world, would dare to have a cool contest with him?"
