Valtteri Bottas starts the first Formula One race of the 2020 season from pole position, having pipped Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix.

LIVE: Austrian Grand Prix latest updates

The Finn leads a Mercedes one-two as the defending world champions look to make an emphatic start to their title defence, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen neatly placed behind them in third to challenge for a third straight victory at the Red Bull Ring.

It could prove a difficult day for Ferrari though, with Charles Leclerc down in seventh and teammate Sebastian Vettel in 11th after a nightmare qualifying session. The surprise package of qualifying proved to be McLaren's Lando Norris, who starts from the second row of the grid for the first time in fourth.

The Red Bull Ring stages the opening race under the sport’s new coronavirus safety protocols, with track personnel significantly limited and no fans allowed to attend races until at least the end of the European leg. But all sessions across all races - including Formula Two and Formula Three - will be broadcast live in the UK, meaning fans will not miss a second of the action in 2020.
