Awards Strategists Dor Dotson and Matt Delman Launch Genuine Impression, Digital and Social Media Campaign Venture (EXCLUSIVE)

Dor Dotson and Matt Delman are teaming up to launch Genuine Impression, a new agency dedicated to leading digital and social media campaigns for Oscar hopefuls. This collaboration merges their successful and ongoing individual operations, Genuine Article and 3rd Impression, to form a one-stop shop for digital film promotion.

Genuine Impression will focus on promoting independent films during awards season, with a particular emphasis on the international and documentary categories. Earlier this year, Dotson and Delman orchestrated a bespoke digital campaign that propelled the Armenian film “Amerikatsi” to the shortlist for best international film — a historic first for the country. Additionally, they collaborated on the acclaimed documentary “The Mole Agent,” which not only earned an Oscar nomination, but is also now being adapted into a Netflix series by Michael Schur (“The Office,” “Parks & Recreation”).

Dotson and Delman have an extensive track record in the industry. Their combined efforts have driven the success of several recent Oscar nominees, including “To Kill a Tiger,” “Four Daughters,” “Writing with Fire” and “The Edge of Democracy.” Moreover, Delman and his team at 3rd Impression played a pivotal role in the awards campaign for the film “RRR,” which won the Oscar for best song for the viral sensation “Naatu Naatu.”

“Genuine Impression brings together our passion for championing great cinema with a data driven approach, taking advantage of emerging trends in social media to craft an organic voice for the film. For us, the question is always how do we create something special without spending lavishly? We’ve found that having a robust film-specific organic campaign, combined with a targeted ad spend, can move the needle and we are excited to bring our complementary skill sets together,” said Dotson and Delman in a joint statement.

Both will continue to oversee their existing companies. Delman’s 3rd Impression executes digital ad campaigns for over 100 films a year. Clients include Mubi, XYZ Films, Music Box Films, Variance Films and more.

At Genuine Article, in addition to partnering directly with filmmakers, Dotson personally manages organic and paid social campaigns for a roster of exhibition and distribution clients including Netflix, IFC Center, Kino Lorber, FilmRise and more.

Before starting Genuine Article in 2015, Dotson worked at OTX, overseeing New York operations for their movie screenings division. Delman worked for Cinetic Media, Vimeo and Gravitas Ventures before founding 3rd Impression in 2017.
