Ayo Edebiri Directed an Upcoming Season 3 Episode of “The Bear”

Edebiri will be making her 'The Bear' directorial debut when season 3 drops on June 27

Ayo Edebiri's directorial debut is fast approaching.

Edebiri previously confirmed that she directed an episode of the third season of The Bear, but now we have more insight as to which episode.

According to the IMDB page for the FX series, Edebiri, 28, will be directing episode 6 of the new season, called "Napkins."

In the series, Edebiri plays Sydney Adamu, the chef de cuisine at The Bear restaurant in Chicago. The new season will focus on the ups and downs of running the eatery after Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) and Sydney led the restaurant’s major renovations and transformation from The Original Beef of Chicagoland in season 2.

The Bottoms actress revealed that she would be making her directorial debut in a Vogue profile back in March. She explained that when she first met with The Bear’s director Chris Storer at 21 years old, he told her that, " 'You’re a director’ [and] I was like, 'Mind your business, bro.' "

“Then last season, he said, ‘Come to set, just come to set, see what happens,' " Edebiri recounted.  “And I was like, ‘Oh, okay. Yeah. I think I want to do this.' "

In another interview with Vogue at the 2024 Met Gala, Edebiri also talked about the shift to directing. “I started out writing and acting as well so I feel like I know things from behind camera and in front of camera, and just getting [the chance] to zoom out," she explained.

She also spoke highly of The Bear’s cast and shared that “it's like such a dream to get to work alongside them and to work with them in a different way. Seeing that skill from a different vantage point has been really cool.”

In an interview with Vanity Fair on May 21, Edebiri’s costar Jeremy Allen White, 33, spoke highly of her and said he has a “tremendous amount of respect for her as a person, but also as an artist.”

“We really enjoy each other in life, on camera and off,” White said. “So I hope that shines through between Carmy and Syd.”

Edebiri’s role in The Bear earned her several award wins this past awards season, including an Emmy and a Golden Globe for lead actress.

Season 3 of The Bear is set to premiere June 27 on FX and Hulu and the first two seasons are now streaming on Hulu.
