Bangladeshi man charged with murdering Indonesian woman at Geylang hotel

A Bangladeshi man was charged at the State Courts on Wednesday (2 January) with the murder of an Indonesian woman at a Geylang hotel.

Ahmed Salim, 30, could face the death penalty should he be convicted of murdering 34-year-old Nurhidayati Wartono Surata. The prosecution asked for Ahmed to be held in remand for one week while further investigations are conducted.

His next court date has been set for 9 January.

Body found on hotel bed

Nurhidayati’s body was found in a room at the Golden Dragon Hotel along Westerhout Road on Sunday. She is believed to have been killed sometime between 5.08pm and 8.12pm.

Police said they received a call for assistance at 10.45pm and Nurhidayati was found lying motionless on the bed inside the room. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Yahoo News Singapore understands that the victim’s body was found with injuries on her neck and hands. Ahmed was arrested within 14 hours of the crime.

Both the victim and the accused are understood to be work permit holders. According to the police, both parties had known each other prior to the incident.
