BBC micro:bit now available for pre-order in the UK

UK bans online ads for junk food targeting children

The micro:bit, a bite-size programmable board to help children in the UK learn programing skills, is now available for public pre-order, reports TechCrunch.

The programing board is part of the micro:bit project, an educational initiative in the UK and part of the BBC's "Make it Digital" initiative. The project aims to inspire children to learn coding, programing and digital technology.

It includes Bluetooth, programable sensors, and input and output rings to link up with other devices. It also contains a companion website that hosts various code editors and tutorials.

The micro:bit was previously distributed by the BBC to one million school children but the plan was always to open up distribution to the public. Now, it can be pre-ordered via Element14's website, for £12.99 (about US$19) for a single BBC micro:bit.
