Black Pound Day: How you can support Black-owned businesses in the UK
Black Pound Day encourages everyone, once a month, to shop from Black-owned businesses in the UK, both locally and online. Here's everything you need to know about the monthly shopping event...
When is Black Pound Day?
First launched on Saturday 27th June 2020, Black Pound Day takes place on the first Saturday of every month. The upcoming dates to note are:
Saturday 3rd October 2020
Saturday 7th November 2020
Saturday 5th December 2020
How did Black Pound Day begin?
Black Pound Day launched in response to the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement. Black Pound Day was developed by rapper and So Solid Crew member, Swiss, to encourage UK shoppers to do more to support Black-owned businesses.
The website explains: "His idea hopes to underpin our long-term financial growth and infrastructure, empowering and motivating the Black community. It's a direct and peaceful response to the systematic racism that creates un-equality for the Black community in the United Kingdom."

How can you show your support?
Whether it's homeware goods or items of clothing, the best way to show your support is to purchase from Black-owned businesses across the UK. According to the Black Pound Day website, "if we spend just £10 a week on Black businesses, we can inject £1.9 billion into the Black community."
As well as making the decision to purchase from Black-owned businesses, another great way to show your support is to spread the word with a post on social media using the hashtag #BlackPoundDay. Some shoppers also upload their receipt to the Black Pound Day website.
