Korean drama couples that deserve a second run

The romantic comedy is a popular genre in Korean dramas and for K-drama addicts like me, there are some drama couples who have the chemistry and that unique "something something" which made their onscreen romance so "kilig" worthy and their fans crave for more. Here's a list of K-drama couples I hope will shoot a continuation of their unforgettable love stories.

Goo Jun Pyo and Geum Jan Di ("Boys Over Flowers")

Who can resist the transformative power of love which we witnessed in "Boys Over Flowers"' leads Goo Jun Pyo (played by Lee Min Ho) and Geum Jan Di (played by Ku Hye Sun)? Starting off as sworn enemies, these two lovebirds remind us of the ups and downs of first love. Overcoming social pressures and personal differences, Goo Jun Pyo and Geum Jan Di show us that love, even young love, can be truly touching and powerful.

[Spoiler Alert!] Those who watched the 25 episodes of "Boys Over Flowers" know that Goo Jun Pyo and Geum Jan Di's love story ended in an ambiguous note since audiences do not actually see Geum Jan Di accept the second marriage proposal of Goo Jun Pyo.

Wouldn't it be great to see how their story develops as Goo Jun Pyo, who is as charmingly arrogant as ever, has now become a successful businessman while Geum Jan Di, who is still the feisty girl we loved, struggles with medical school? The third party dynamic Yoon Ji Hoo (played by Kim Hyun Joong) brings is also something to anticipate because he obviously still carries a torch for Geum Jan Di. The love story of other F4 members including So Yi Jeong (and partner Gaul) and Song Woo Bin can also be part of the continuing "Boys Over Flowers" story. Many of the "Boys Over Flowers" stars are still active in the business, isn't it time to plan for a BOF Part 2?

Hwang Te Kyung and Go Mi Nam ("You're Beautiful")

One of the best Korean dramas of 2009 is the Hong Sisters' "You're Beautiful". This drama proved to be starmaking for its lead actors Jang Geun Suk, Park Shin Hye, Jung Yong Hwa and Lee Hongki.

In "You're Beautiful", we meet the mismatched yet ironically perfect pair of Hwang Te Kyung (played by Jang Geun Suk) and Go Mi Nam (played by Park Shin Hye). With Go Mi Nam entering the story as a girl pretending to be a guy in order to join a popular band, the romance between the band's leader Hwang Te Kyung and the klutzy-yet-lovable Go Mi Nam develops in a funny unorthodox way.

[Spoiler Alert!] Who can forget the couple's awkward first kiss when Go Mi Nam literally saw fireworks fly over her head and the fan club membership scene where Go Mi Nam gives Hwang Te Kyung a surprising 100% rating after insulting him with a low rating for his personality?

"You're Beautiful" ends with Hwang Te Kyung publicly declaring his love for Go Mi Nam (which is every fan girl's dream) and offering her a 3-star necklace to seal the deal. With Go Mi Nam going to Africa for a mission, wouldn't it be great to continue the "You're Beautiful" story by introducing an interesting twist during their time of separation? Maybe the second season would end with a wedding… THAT would be awesome!

Baek Seung Jo and Oh Ha Ni ("Playful Kiss")

The story of "Playful Kiss" has several versions. The Korean version starring Kim Hyun Joong and Jung Su Min takes inspiration from the story's various incarnations including the original Japanese manga and anime "Itazura na Kiss and to some degree, the Taiwanese versions "It Started With A Kiss" and "They Kiss Again".

(Spoiler Alert!) "Playful Kiss" tells the story of the arrogant genius Baek Seung Jo (played by Kim Hyun Joong) and the cute simpleton Oh Ha Ni (played by Jung Su Min). What is most interesting about their story is how the high and mighty Baek Seung Jo finds his solace and balance in Oh Ha Ni.

Although the "Playful Kiss" YouTube edition did give us a glimpse to Baek Seung Jo and Oh Ha Ni's married life in the seven web episodes they posted after the drama ended, these short glimpses were just not enough to fill the craving. Wouldn't it be great to see how Baek Seung Jo and Oh Ha Ni face the challenges of marriage and parenting being such a young married couple?

There are other K-drama couples I'd like to see onscreen again including Full House's Lee Young Jae (played by Rain) and Ha Ji Eun (played by Song Gye Kyo), Secret Garden's Kim Joo Won (played by Hyun Bin) and Gil Ra Im (played by Ha Ji Won), and Coffee Prince's Han Gyul (played by Gong Yoo) and Go Eun Chan (played by Yoon Eun Hye) but considering the storylines of their dramas, I think these stories are best left untouched. It would be great, though, to see the actors team up for other projects. Some good things are best left untouched.
