In the government’s effort to promote street vibrancy in Singapore, starting next Saturday, 4 October, a short stretch of Orchard Road will be closed to vehicles on the first Saturday night of each month.

Much like the weekend road closures in Ginza, Tokyo and Kowloon, Hong Kong, people will be allowed to roam freely across and around a 660m stretch between Scotts Road and Bideford Road. Specifically, the part stretching from between Ion Orchard and the Marriott Hotel and ending between Paragon and Ngee Ann City will be closed from 6pm to 11pm.

According to media reports, Chee, 30, had started pool physiotherapy sessions in September last year. In a clip uploaded on Wednesday at about 5pm, he hops into the pool and propels himself forward with his right arm in a modified breaststroke. Chee completed the lap in just under three minutes.

The near-fatal stab wounds suffered by 22-year-old Ummul Qurratu 'Ain were "unintentional", sustained in a scuffle while ex-girlfriend Giselle Shi was trying to kill herself.

This was the defence put forward by 25-year-old Shi's lawyer, who cross-examined the prosecution's star witness and victim in the ongoing alleged murder case at the High Court on Thursday.
