Authorities are investigating a package at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport after two customs inspectors examined it and fell sick. The package has tentatively tested positive for VX nerve gas.

Malaysian hostage recounts Philippines escape
Tung Wei Jie, a 26-year-old Malaysian plantation manager, recounts how he was chained to a pillar with his cousin for almost nine months. He was held hostage in a “traumatising” ordeal by Philippine Muslim extremists and made his escape before dawn last week during a heavy downpour.
