Engine power to be included in Cat A car COE from Feb 2014

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew announced on Monday that engine power will be included as a new criterion for Category A Certificate of Entitlement (COE) bidding exercises starting February 2014. Under the change, the engine power of any car in category A (small cars) should not exceed 97 kilowatts (kW) – equivalent to about 130 brake horsepower. The additional criterion is expected to better level the playing field for mass market cars like Toyota, Mitsubishi, Suzuki in the cat A segment, which is now being dominated by premium cars.

A Facebook photo posted by former PAP politician Tan Cheng Bock, went viral after he posted it on his profile on Saturday. The photo features him, ex-opposition figurehead, Chiam See Tong, and wife, non-constituency MP, Lina Chiam. Tan was visiting Chiam, both former adversaries in Parliament, at a nursing home while Chiam was recovering from hip surgery.

Injured Navy regular Jason Chee: My big dream is to compete in 2016 Paralympics

Inspirational speaker Nick Vujicic, who was in Singapore over the weekend, met two very special Singaporean guests, with their own heartwarming stories to tell. Jason Chee, 30, is a Navy regular who lost both his legs, his left arm and three fingers, during a horrific ship accident. Meanwhile, ex-national shooter Aishah Samad, was forced to amputate all her limbs after contracting a near-fatal bacterial infection. Both now are dreaming of competing in the 2016 Paralympics.

A diving lesson attended by a married couple from Singapore ended in tragedy after the husband and his instructor drowned off the coast on Pulau Tioman on Saturday. Both were believed to have run out of air in their diving tanks. A deputy police chief ASP Zainul Mujahidin Mat Yudin said the incident had occurred at around noon at the Air Batang beach. He added the couple were practising their diving skills with the 48-year-old coach -- also a Singaporean -- about 25 metres from the beach.

'The Fox': Song with the silliest lyrics ever gets 10 million views (and counting)

“The Fox” is the latest YouTube smash hit that has amassed over 10 million views since it was uploaded on YouTube last Tuesday. The song is popular for its silly lyrics that go: “What does the fox say? Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!” Produced by Norwegian comedic duo, Ylvis, — who are made up of brothers Bård Ylvisåker, 31, and Vegard 34 — the song was meant to promote their late-night TV talk show called “I kveld med YLVIS” (roughly translates to “Tonight with YLVIS”).
