This Bonkers Sailing Yacht Concept’s Mast Can Tilt 70 Degrees to Cruise Under Bridges

Steve Kozloff developed his latest concept with a capable couple in mind.

Christed 2US (To Us), the 134-foot sailing yacht is designed to be operated by two but it can also welcome additional seafarers, of course. Spread across five decks, the sprawling interior is outfitted with an owner’s suite measuring 380 square feet, one VIP cabin, and two twins. She also sports cabins for three crew.

Featuring a sturdy ice-class hull, 2US is a true go-anywhere explorer, too. The single-masted sailer can cover 6,000 nautical miles on diesel power alone, though her range is greatly extended with careful management of her hybrid propulsion systems and sailing rig. She is capable of hitting nine knots on diesel or 10 knots using the wind.

The tilting mast allows 2US to cruise beneath bridges.

The yacht’s Solid Sail system, which was designed by French outfit Chantiers de L’Atlantique, has many advantages over a traditional rig, according to the California-based designer. Most notably, the mast can tilt 70 degrees forward to reduce the air draft from 144 feet to 89 feet, making it possible for the vessel to sail under most bridges. The free-standing mast is also free of shrouds and can rotate a full 360 degrees to maximize wind power. To top it off, the Solid Sail system has integrated load-sensing technology that tells the captain how much to drive the rig.

Another nifty design feature is the crane that is integrated into the boom. It can be used to lift and move cargo or toys. Speaking of toys, the full-beam garage can accommodate a large tender, a U-Boat Worx NEMO submarine, and other small runabouts. 2US is also equipped with an aircraft hangar measuring 1,800 square feet that can hold a helicopter and an IKON seaplane. The helipad itself is synchronized with the yacht’s stabilization system to ensure it stays still in rough conditions for safe takeoffs and landings.

Now you just have to confirm your first mate.
