A suspected burglar was stuck for seven hours in a chicken shop’s extractor fan after he bungled an attempted break-in.

To make matters worse for the thief police took a photo of the stuck burglar, then posted it on social media.

The picture showed the man’s legs poking out of the side of a DFC Chicken building in Birmingham. That picture has now been retweeted more than 500 times.

He apparently got stuck at around 2am and shouted for help.

He was eventually discovered at 8:20 am when police and firefighters were called to rescue then arrest the man.

‘The extractor unit had been removed and the suspect had climbed in to the extractor outlet at around 2am,’ said response officer PC Matthew Willocks.

It was Willocks who took the photo.

The officer added: ‘He was completely stuck and couldn’t move at all.

‘The fire brigade had to come in and use the jaws of life to pull back all the extractor casing to release him.’

The force’s chief constable, David Thompson, re-tweeted the photograph, adding: ‘Most excellent.’

The 45-year-old man was taken to hospital for a check-up and has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
