Burmese maid charged with murder of 70-year-old employee

A Burmese domestic helper accused of killing her 70-year-old employer was charged with murder on Wednesday (27 June) at the State Courts.

Zin Mar Nwe, 24, appeared in court via video link on Wednesday. At around 3.09pm on 25 June, the police said they received a call for assistance at a residential unit in the northwest of Singapore.

Upon arrival, a 70-year-old Indian woman was found lying motionless at the said location and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at around 3.29pm.

If convicted of murder, Zin faces the death penalty. According to Channel News Asia, Zin will be remanded at Changi Women’s Prison for psychiatric evaluation for a week.
