UPDATE: The police have issued a statement on the incident

A Caucasian man was reportedly attacked at an S-11 coffeeshop opposite the State Courts at Upper Cross Street on Tuesday (28 November) afternoon.

When Yahoo News Singapore arrived at the scene, the middle-aged victim – who is understood to be a Canadian citizen and Singapore permanent resident – was seen to be lying on the ground and bleeding. He was later taken away in an ambulance by paramedics.

Stallholder Goh Kuang Zon, 23, said the victim had been drinking at the coffeeshop from about 2pm when he was attacked by a Chinese-looking man. The attacker was said to have walked off after the assault, which is believed to have taken place around 4.30pm.

Another stallholder, 48-year-old Koo Wai Kong, said he saw the attacker lift a chair and smash it onto the victim’s head.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means at 34 Upper Cross Street on 28 November 2017 at 4.22pm.

“A 53-year-old man was conscious when conveyed to Singapore General Hospital. Police investigations are ongoing,” the statement said.
