SINGAPORE — A central kitchen licensed to produce cooked meals was fined a total of $6,000 on Thursday (26 December) for failing to ensure its premises are properly maintained and kept clean.

Obayed Holdings Pte Ltd, located on the fourth storey of the Food Xchange@Admiralty building at Admiralty Street, was slapped with two charges after routine inspections of its premises by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on 5 September and 15 November found several lapses.

These include widespread cockroach infestation, structural damage such as cracked floor tiles in the cooking room, and poor housekeeping that resulted in the presence of houseflies and ants in the cutting room.

SFA reminds food operators to ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained. Staff should also be adequately trained on proper food safety management. Operators who do not comply with such requirements can be fined up to $5,000; in the case of a continuing offence, they may be fined a further $100 for every day in which the offence continues.

Members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments are advised not to patronise them. They should provide feedback via SFA’s online feedback form or call its contact centre at 6805-2871 with details for SFA investigations.
