Changi region to have new roads and cycling paths

In a bid to improve connectivity within the Changi region, the Land Transportation Authority (LTA) will start work to enhance road and active mobility network from end 2020.

“These enhancements are necessary to serve existing and new developments. These include Changi Airport Terminal 5 (T5), growth in aviation and logistics industries and residential developments,” said LTA in a release.

The works will be divided into the Changi Northern and Southern Corridors.

For the Changi Northern Corridor, a three km-cycling path covering Nicoll Drive, Aviation Park Road, Telok Paku Road, Changi Coast Road and Loyang Avenue will be constructed.

A bus lane for each direction of Loyang Avenue and a vehicular viaduct along Loyang Avenue between Loyang Way and Tampines Expressway will also be built.

For the Changi Southern Corridor, the works will include the widening and realignment of Tanah Merah Coast Road (TMCR), construction of roads linking T5 to TMCR as well as the reconfiguration of the Tanah Merah Flyover and Changi Flyover.

Cyclists will also benefit from the planned 3.5 km-cycling paths along the TMCR and Xilin Avenue, which will complement the existing Park Connector Network and on-road cycling lanes to connect East Coast and Tampines to T5.

With this, the government will acquire parts within Laguna National Golf and Country Club as well as parts of three plots belonging to JTC.

“The Singapore Land Authority has gazetted the acquisition of the affected land today. SLA and LTA will work closely with the affected landowners to assist them throughout the land acquisition process and to minimise the impact on them,” said LTA.

Most of the road and active mobility works for the Changi Northern Corridor will be done by 2026, with the rest to be completed along with nearby CRL stations by 2029.

The Changi Southern Corridor works, on the other hand, are expected to be completed by end 2026.

LTA revealed that it will call for tenders for the roads and cycling path projects from Q4 2019.
